According to television and screenwriter Jeffrey Sprouse, he was hired and wrote a script for a Captain America movie that was set to be released in 1981 by Universal Studio. The cast for the movie was planned to be Jeff Bridges as Captain America, Peter Fonda as Red Skull, Alan Rickman as Baron Zemo, and Clarence Gilyard, Jr. as the Falcon. Sprouse stated that has script was set in modern-day. However, the opening scenes was Steve Rogers having flashbacks of World War II and being frozen in ice. Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson now working for the government and trying to track down an international terrorist known as Baron Zemo. Zemo, who is now in possession of the Cosmic Cube (a powerful ancient relic) is on the quest to free Red Skull, who is a prisoner of war. Skull is now held by a government agency, who has his body in cryofreeze. The movie would end with an epic fight with Captain America and Falcon taking on Red Skull and Baron Zemo (with the cube). However, this movie never happened because Universal was unable to re-secure the movie rights.
