In the original ending, the Goonies went home and it is while Mikey's family was packing to leave, Rosalita finds the marble bag and gems while doing laundry. There was reference to the last scene being changed to occurring on the beach so that the ending was simplified and The Inferno could be seen in a magnificent exciting shot at the end.

In the novelization of the film, when Mikey finds One-Eyed Willy's skeleton, he discovers One-Eyed Willy has an asthma inhaler, which Mikey suffers from asthma and this leads Mikey to believe that he is One-Eyed Willy's reincarnation and that it was his destiny to find One-Eyed Willy's treasure.
