To demonstrate that a CGI Matrix film was possible, Square Pictures created a short. They took the Aki character from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, gave her a haircut and a different outfit, and animated a fight between her and a "Sentinel" robot from the Matrix series. The finished "Final Flight" also drew on the technological and artistic assets Square had assembled together for their Final Fantasy movie.

If you freeze frame on the DVD you can briefly see the Name Plate on an Osiris bulkhead that says : Mark IV 16 : OSIRIS : Made in the USA 2097. Looking up the text in the bible it reads: "But when Herod heard this, he said, 'John, the man I beheaded, has been raised from the Dead!'"
