Because of all the rain during the shooting of the film, the cast and crew started calling the movie "Mudslinger."

Allison Hayes broke her arm when she fell off a horse during the filming. Beverly Garland claimed Hayes intentionally slid from her horse in order to get out of the film. Director Roger Corman also shot a couple of close-ups of Hayes for the film as they were waiting for the ambulance.

Hannie Caulder (1971) has been considered by a few to be a loose remake of this film. Both films are about widows seeking violent vengeance upon those who murdered their husbands.

According to Beverly Garland, the first scene shot was a love scene between her and John Ireland. It was at 6:30 in the morning and their teeth were chattering. She says they had huge red biting ants crawling all over them during the scene, and the ants can be seen in the finished film.

It rained throughout most of the shoot. Many exterior shots had to be re-written at the last minute to be shot indoors. Several exterior shots had to be done with a tarp over the cast members heads, and the score was used to drown out the sound of the rain hitting it.

This is the first of two Allison Hayes films that contains a "Red Dog" saloon. The other film is A Lust to Kill (1958).
