United 93 was released on 4/28/2006 almost 3 months exactly before the A&E TV movie Flight 93. Both movies are based on the fourth jet that crashed in the Pennsylvania field.

United flight 93 was one of the four planes hijacked as part of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, possibly intended to crash into and destroy the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. It crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, about 150 miles northwest of Washington. It was the only one of the four planes that didn't reach its intended target.

Rebecca Schull plays Patricia Cushing, a real-life victim of the 9/11 attack as a passenger on United 93. Schull is most famous for her role on the TV show Wings (1990), created by David Angell, himself a real life victim of the 9/11 attacks as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11.

According to Jere Longman's book "Among the Heroes: United Flight 93 and the Passengers and Crew Who Fought Back", the film scheduled to be shown on the actual flight was A Knight's Tale (2001).

The actors who played the hijackers and the actors who played the passengers and crew were kept in separate hotels during filming. They also worked out in separate gyms and did not eat meals together. The director wanted to capture the separation, fear, and hostility between the two groups.
