  • Prior to this film being made, director Craig R. Baxley and Dolph Lundgren were going to make another movie together titled "Man To Man", which was going to be an action sci-fi comedy about alien crashing to Earth. While he is in the Nevada desert, he hitches a ride with a repo man and the two of them go on action-filled adventure while searching for the alien's spaceship. The script was written by Randy Feldman around 1986 or 1987 and Baxley also worked on it to include more action sequences, and he was going to direct it in 1988 after he finished directing Action Jackson (1988) in 1987. Joel Silver was going to produce the film with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the alien role originally, but after Predator (1987) turned out to be a huge hit, Schwarzenegger became too expensive so Dolph Lundgren was hired. However, a few days before production was to begin in 1988, producers Joel Silver and Bernie Brillstein got into a series of arguments; the entire crew was waiting in Las Vegas for shooting to begin, but Brillstein and Silver couldn't decide would be the co-star, so everyone got paid off and production was cancelled. Baxley later said in a podcast interview how the project "sort of self-destructed", the script was "hilarious, but great", they were going let him use any locations in Las Vegas he wanted for action sequences and that one of those sequences he added into the script was a big car chase scene that was to have cars going from one side of a casino downtown to the other.

  • Since the film's release there have been several attempts at a sequel. In 1995 or 1996, Harv Zimmel got the job of writing the script for a sequel that didn't include any of the characters from the first film. His script was about a down-on-his-luck police detective who is investigating mysterious disappearances of people in a coastal California town. He joins up with a female Interpol agent who is working on the same case, and during the story it would be revealed that she is an alien who is hunting after another female alien responsible for those disappearances. Although the producers thought that the script was really good, they couldn't get the budget for it and there were also some rights issues with the first film. Craig R. Baxley was approached to make the sequel around that same time but he refused because the budget would be only $3 million.
