This is the only Ice Age sequel to not gross more money than a Pixar movie that opened the same year. This movie grossed $408.6 million while Finding Dory (2016) grossed $1.028 billion.

The film was originally going to end with Scrat fighting aliens (who resemble Scratte from the third film) for the acorn. It was possibly cut for time constraints, and replaced with the much shorter scene with Scrat ramming the ship into Mars, making it uninhabitable. The scenes with him fighting the aliens was included on the DVD, as a bonus feature.
