Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre) was caught by the criminals in the office building.Franz (Friedrich Gnass), the only criminal left behind in the building, was tricked into thinking that he is to be booked for murder. He then offers to tell them where the criminals hideout is located. Hans Beckert is brought before the court of criminals. At first, he denied knowing anything about the children. However, once he was shown their photos, he panicked and tried to run away, but is caught. He then confessed while claiming that he is mentally ill and is compelled to commit the murders. His lawyer argued that he should be sent to a doctor and not be executed. The jury did not buy it and were about to execute him when the police intervened, arresting both Becker and all the criminals.
