In 2019, the film was retroactively connected to the CW's Arrowverse - the fictional universe shared by Arrow (2012), The Flash (2014), Constantine (2014), Supergirl (2015), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016), and Batwoman (2019) - when it was announced that Brandon Routh, who also stars as Ray Palmer on "Legends of Tomorrow", would reprise the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event. As an in-joke to his role in the film, when Ray first met Kara Danvers, Clark's cousin from a parallel Earth, in the four-part crossover "Invasion!", he observed that she looks like his cousin.
