Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were briefly in talks to write and direct the movie after the Wayans Brothers left the franchise. However, Friedberg and Seltzer wanted to make the movie chiefly a parody of Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, whose working title was reported as "Scary Movie 3: Episode I: Lord of the Brooms." Ultimately, Harvey Weinstein preferred to keep the series parodying horror films, and so Friedberg and Seltzer's script went unused.

(at around 57 mins) When Leslie Nielsen wondered what would President Ford would do if faced with a difficult situation, he is not staring at a portrait of President Gerald Ford but Harrison Ford. Ford previously played a US President in the film Air Force One (1997) which at times utilized an alternate poster similar to Ford's portrait in this film. Moreover, Nielsen previously appeared in the parody film Wrongfully Accused (1998) which spoofed The Fugitive (1993), a film starring Harrison Ford.

Anthony Anderson's character, Mahalik, turned out so popular in test screenings, additional scenes for him were quickly written and shot while the film was already in post-production.

(at around 43 mins) When Orpheus is trying to watch the Lakers game, ShaNeequa tells him the Lakers will win by twelve. This mostly likely refers to the February 1, 2003 game against the Utah Jazz, which resulted in a 99-87 win for the Lakers at home.
