There has been an online fan-theory that Nina may have been sexually abused by her mother - Erica. There are two scenes from Nina's point of view that hint at this theory: When Erica is in Nina's bedroom she gives a suspicious smirk when saying "Are you ready?" and it is revealed Lilly never actually slept over in the Lesbian scene, and Lilly calling Nina "sweet girl" - the same words Erica uses - and Lily's face transforming into herself and her mother causing her to freak out for a second.

An exterior scene scheduled to be filmed outdoors at the Plaza Hotel fountain took three months to shoot. Initially, the scene had to be re-written anyway so the shoot there was canceled for that reason. The rain, more rain and a blizzard then prevented it being shot. By the time it was filmed, it was not longer autumn but winter, so that meant it had to be re-written as an interior with the Plaza Hotel's Palm Court merely becoming just a codicil to the sequence.
