In a Q&A with the audience after a special screening of the film in Austin's Alamo Drafthouse in 2014, Brian Bosworth talked about how original director Bruce Malmuth was fired due to some "personal issues that he couldn't control which poured out on set", and his firing caused all the original backstory for Bosworth's character to be removed and changed after Craig R. Baxley was hired to direct. About four weeks was spent filming scenes with Bosworth's character and his family (wife, child and sister), which in the end were completely axed out after $4 million was spent shooting them.

The undercover FBI agents made references to a "prospect", which is a slang term for a someone who wants to join the club. To become a "patched-in" member of an "outlaw" motorcycle gang, prospects are tested by members of the gang, which may include performing such tasks as washing members' bikes, making beer runs, cleaning out clubhouses, or virtually any task a patched member of the gang tells him to do--without question. When the gang's president is satisfied that the prospect is qualified to join the gang, he is "patched in"--given the gang's logo to sew on the back of his leathers, signifying that he is now an "official" member of the gang.

The meal Brian Bosworth makes for his Nile monitor (the big lizard) is not at all suitable for that animal. Reptiles cannot digest citrus fruit (orange juice) or dairy/chocolate (snickers bars). Technically the potatoes & bananas wouldn't be bad for the monitor but fried food (the potato chips) wouldn't be good for it just like the candy bar but potatoes and bananas are not part of the animals diet either. Nile monitors are carnivores and only the eggs would have been appropriate for it. People who keep Nile Monitors as pets would be feeding it pre-killed mice/rats, rabbits, baby chickens, parts of full grown chickens, ground turkey, ground beef, fish and if they keep other animals they might even feed them ones that died of natural causes as well.
