Tab Hunter's cowboy character of Abel Wood is a parody of Clint Eastwood's "Man with No Name" character, who speaks little, from the spaghetti westerns Eastwood made with director Sergio Leone during the mid-1960s.

The name of the saloon cantina was "Marguerita's" named after it's owner Marguerita Ventura (Lainie Kazan).
