As a promotional gimmick for the film, the studio created an essay contest for people to get married dressed in costumes from the movie. A dozen lucky winners were married off in a one-day only ceremony in 1983. The gimmick was dropped afterwards since it garnered no additional press coverage for the film.

Lysette Anthony revealed in a 2018 interview that Harvey Weinstein raped her when she was 19, right after she was cast for this film. She said he was a rock journalist at the time interested in getting into the movie business. They had been friends for about a year, but then he showed up at her apartment one morning. She was only wearing a nightgown and he suddenly pushed her against a coat rack, and then onto the floor where he raped her. She said she tried to push him off but he was too heavy and fat.
