Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ending explained (spoilers)

In 1969 Los Angeles, Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a popular action star, but after his hit TV show Bounty Law is canceled due to his alcoholism, he feels that his career is in decline. He is given an offer to fly to Rome with his best friend and stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) to shoot Spaghetti Westerns, but Rick thinks that this would be a career low for him. When he finds out that his new neighbors are Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), Rick thinks he has a chance at reinvigorating his career.

While Rick is filming an episode of the series Lancer, Cliff meets a young hippie woman and brings her back to her home on Spahn Ranch, where the infamous Manson Family lives. At the same time, Sharon, a fairly new actress, watches her own movie, The Wrecking Crew, in a theater, and she is happy to hear the positive reception from the audience.

Rick and Cliff eventually fly to Rome for the Spaghetti Westerns, and Rick comes back married to an Italian film star named Francesca Capucci. He and Cliff feel that it is time they part ways. This happens on the night of August 8th, 1969. Manson Family members Tex Watson, Sadie (Susan Atkins), Katie (Patricia Krenwinkel), and Flowerchild (Linda Kasabian) show up to kill a pregnant Sharon and her friends, until Rick comes out to yell at them to leave. Sadie then suggests they kill Rick and his friends, but Flowerchild leaves them before they carry out their plan. The three find Cliff, who is high on acid, and he sics his dog on Tex and Sadie before stomping Tex's face in and then smashing Katie's face all across the house. Rick kills Sadie by burning her to death with a flamethrower.

Cliff goes to the hospital for injuries, and Rick ends up meeting Sharon and her friends.

After Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau) dies, Ed (Johnny Depp) manages to get funding for his next film from his landlord and his associates. However, they force Ed to change the films title from Grave Robbers From Outer Space to Plan 9 From Outer Space and then object to him direcing the film in drag. Angered, Ed goes to a pub (still in drag) and meets his idol, Orson Welles (Vincent DOnofrio), who advises him not to let the producers interfere with his film-making. Ed finishes the film his way and after the premiere, he drives off with Kathy (Patricia Arquette) to Las Vegas to get married, never finding out the audiences reaction to Plan 9 from Outer Space. Years later, Ed directed monster nudie films, struggled with alcoholism and never achieved mainstream success; he died at the age of 54 in 1978 and two years later he was voted The Worst Director of all Time. Kathy was married to Ed until his death and she never remarried. Bunny Breckenridge (Bill Murray) never got his sex change operation. Tor Johnson starred in many B movies and his face became a bestselling Halloween mask; he died in 1971. Criswell (Jeffrey Jones) continued making inaccurate predictions (often on The Tonight Show); he died in 1982. Eds ex-girlfriend Dolores (Sarah Jessica Parker) became a successful songwriter. Vampira tried to sue horror movie hostess Elvira (for stealing her act) in the 80s but didnt succeed.

Will and Silvia break into Phillipes personal high security vault and steal his first million years from him. They then release all of these years into the system at the rescue mission. Even though theres nothing the Timekeepers can do about the release, Ray continues to chase the outlaws, but Timekeepers only keep a small amount of time on their person and Raymond didnt receive his allowance during the final chase, Raymond times out and he dies. Will races to use Raymonds allowance to save his life and also save Sylvias life. We then see Will and Sylvia pull up outside another bank some time later and prepare to rob the bank with guns. As they start climbing the steps it cuts to credits implying that Will and Sylvia have become the Robin Hoods of the new era, robbing banks to give time to the poor.
