Underworld: Rise of the Lycans ending explained (spoilers)

Sonja (Rhona Mitra) is killed and Lucian (Michael Sheen) is forced to watch. The lycans and werewolves storm the castle and triumph over the vampires and are no longer slaves. Lucian tells his fellow wolves that this is merely the beginning and that the conflict is far from over. Viktor (Bill Nighy) survives the fight against Lucian and enters a hibernation chamber. The last scene is the first scene from the first Underworld film: Selene (Kate Beckinsale) looking below at the city streets. Dialogue from the first film is heard: when Kraven tells Selene that Viktor killed her family and not the lycans; and that Viktor spared her life because she reminded him of his daughter Sonja. Selene replies: Lies!
