In the 2007 version... Penny and Seaweed get together. Link and Tracy get together. Velma is fired from the TV company for fixing the Miss Hairspray votes (which is eventually won by Seaweed's sister) and intergration finally happens on the Corny Collins Show

Ray Charles overcomes his drug addiction and his personal demons (guilt over his brothers death). In the late 70s, the state of Georgia gives Ray a public apology, hes no longer banned and Georgia on my Mind becomes the states national song. Ray kept his promise to his mother and never used heroin again. He contributed over million to schools for the blind and deaf.
