Extreme Measures ending explained (spoilers)

Hugh Grant goes to the nurse, Jodie I think her name is, Sarah Jessica Parker, anyway. He sees a Triphase trash bag, confronts her, and gets hit from behind with a baseball bat by her crippled brother. (Maybe I should have said paraplegic?) Wakes up in Triphase paralyzed, finds out he's not paralyzed, Jodie frees him, he fights his way out, kills Gene Hackman, goes to NYU to live happily ever after. Then Gene Hackman's wife comes to NYU, gives Gene's research data to Hugh - she thought Gene was trying to do a good thing in a bad way, now Hugh can carry on the right way.
