In the DVD commentaries for Gremlins (1984) and this movie, Dante stated that he felt that this movie was a case of waiting too long to capitalize on the success of Gremlins (1984), which hurt this movie's chances of success.

  • For the special effects, Director Joe Dante turned to Rick Baker, when Chris Walas and Rob Bottin had to turn it down.
