  • In this film "The Syndicate" is seemingly under the leadership of Conrad Strughold, as played by Armin Mueller Stahl; Despite the character's prominence in the film and the suggestion of his supreme command over the Smoking Man and the Syndicate -- he had previously never been seen in the series, nor would he ever be mentioned or heard from again in the X-Files canon (save for one detail in which Operation Paper Clip is somehow tied to the "Strughold Mining Company"). Since that episode covered the recruitment of Nazi scientists to the Syndicate's endgame, it is possible Strughold had connections to the Nazi regime as well, which would explain his limited movement in the series as he would be classified as a war criminal and not distinguished like the other powerful members of the consortium.
