The film has plot points very similar to the Martin & Lewis picture, Hollywood or Bust (1956). Martin and Downey play likeminded characters forced to drive cross country to Los Angelas with a clumsy idiot (played by Lewis/Galifianakis) that both refer to as "Hollywood" and his dog in a red car.
