The producers scoured the U.K. and Maine to find an appropriate fishing village, in which to film Collinsport, but couldn't find one that fit. Thus they constructed the whole town from scratch in Pinewood Studios.

-

-
Interestingly, the baboons in this movie don't fit into any real-life species, as they have traits common to both baboons and mandrills (for example, the brightly colored faces). It is possible that they are more like mandrills due to their appearances (the leader: adult male, baby baboon: infant, others: adult female).
-
Sabor the leopard kills at least three minor characters in the movie (Kala's first son and Tarzan's parents) and injures another three of the protagonists (Kala, Kerchak and Tarzan, making the latter bleed). This makes her one of, if not the, most dangerous animal villains in Disney movies..
-
Though Tarzan is undeniably brave in the face of Sabor, he is actually very scared of her. This is shown multiples times throughout his fight with her. *When Tarzan was struggling underneath Sabor, his eyes are shut tight, clearly showing fear. *When Tarzan was hiding in the tree branches from Sabor, his eyes are wide and he grits his teeth. He can also be heard whimpering slightly as he backs away from her. *Before Tarzan grabs the stone and jams it against Sabor's paw, he briefly says "No!" in a deep voice. He doesn't move his mouth when he says it, and it can only be heard if one listens closely. *also when Tarzan is backing away in the tree branches, if one listens you can hear Tarzan grunt and the branches snapping, you can hear Tarzan let out a deep, slight whimper. *He's also demonstrated fear in the scene that takes place on the boat, first when he realizes Clayton's men had taken the boat's crew members hostages and then went chasing after him (though this is mostly due to not expecting them to do that), and then moments after when he's holding onto the funnel's top before falling from there (probably due to being aware that he was having difficulties trying to climb it and he'd fall from unexpected heights).
-
Bill Paxton and Robert Forster were considered for the role of Clayton.
-
The scene where Tarzan discovers Jane's foot is bare and proceeds to play with her toes is something of a Tarzan tradition. It was done in live-action in Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) and Tarzan, the Ape Man (1959).
