Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeff Goldblum (Dr. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)), and Trevor Morgan (Eric Kirby from Jurassic Park III (2001)) appeared on Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001). D'Onofrio played Detective Robert Goren, while Goldblum and Morgan played Detective Zach Nichols and Goren's nephew, respectively. In addition, B.D. Wong also plays Dr. George Huang on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999).

Director Colin Trevorrow revealed that the first cut ran thirteen minutes longer than the final cut. Aside from one scene left on the cutting floor, the rest were merely shortened.

The production rented out the huge buildings at the N.A.S.A. facility, which were used to construct the external fuel tanks for the space shuttles.

Zara's death scene where she is thrashed about in the water before being eaten is an homage to another Steven Spielberg movie. The scene visually resembles the death of the female swimmer at the beginning of Jaws (1975).

The nightvision goggles worn by Tim in Jurassic Park (1993) are seen when Gray and Zach go to the original park right before repairing the Jeep. They are seen again shortly after Owen and Claire get to the same location after the boys have driven away.

In this movie, Rexy sounds like the buck Tyrannosaurus from The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) instead of her sounds from Jurassic Park (1993). It's likely this is the case because the filmmakers wanted Rexy to sound older, as she lived from the 1993 Isla Nublar Incident, which was twenty-two years ago. However, her original roar from Jurassic Park (1993) did not go unused. She issued her original call twice during her battle with the Indominus Rex.
