In the original animated film when Jafar became a powerful sorcerer from his 2nd wish given to him after stealing the lamp, one of his powers included shape shifting, which he was able to do by becoming a massive Cobra that's about half the size of Agrabah Palace when facing off Aladdin. He does not have that power in the live action reboot, instead using his powers to change Iago into a massive bird that's about the size of a hut to face off against Aladdin.

Dalia who is Jasmine's handmaiden is the only main character in this film to be a brand-new character and not to have originated in the previous animated Aladdin continuity.

In the original film Aladdin and Jasmine first meet after the song 'One jump ahead'. In this film it is the exact opposite. Likewise Aladdin singing on being a street rat takes place before he met Jasmine in the original film and after meeting Jasmine in this film.

Towards the end of the "Friend Like Me" number, Aladdin and Genie are seen leapfrogging down a flight of stairs, completing with a split at each step. This could be a tribute to The Nicholas Brothers, who did the exact same move in Stormy Weather (1943), although with no CGI effects due to there being no CGI in the 1940s.
