An obvious attempt to replicate the success of Fox's big 1941 hit Sun Valley Serenade, Iceland reunites that film's two stars (John Payne and Sonja Henie) brings back Sun Valley's director (H. Bruce Humberstone) and replaces the Glenn Miller band with Sammy Kaye's orchestra. But lightening refused to strike twice, and Iceland's box office failure hastened the end of Henie's film career.

Because of the Columbine massacre, the producers were pressured into toning down the film's violence. (At one point, the studio attempted to demand for no blood to be seen in the film at all). As such, the film is a bit more satirical and comedic than the first two.
