John Green stated in a vlog that he ruined one of the takes by yelling when he found out that his long time favourite football team (Liverpool) was drawn to play against AFC Wimbledon- the team nerdfighteria (vlogbrother fans) sponsors. Green attended this game, supporting AFC Wimbledon who lost.

In an appearance on The Graham Norton Show to promote this movie, Cara Delevingne said she had been asked to produce her audition tapes by other actors to prove that she could act. She didn't specify whether it was her audition for this movie or for another.

In the gas station scene Ansel Elgort plays the gas station attendant. He also played Gus in The Fault in Our Stars (2014). Another movie based off a John Green book like Paper Towns (2015).

Ansel Elgort who portrayed Augustus Waters in "The Fault in Our Stars" also by John Green makes a cameo appearance as a gas station cashier. Elgort's character is named Gus, and funnily enough, the guy in the building that Margo and Q visit is named Gus as well.

This film was filmed in Mooresville NC. You can see the street signs in the background. Also multiple neighborhoods in Mooresville, NC such as; Cherry Grove and Waterlynn. While watching you can see the old gas station on Church St. along with the well know blue and black tie truck out front. The is also some shots with Epic Chop house in the background along with the famous yellow car painted on the side of the building.

Q, Ben and Radar sing the Pokemon theme song while in the strip mall. Justice (Radar) starred in first live-action Pokémon film, Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019).

In the book there's a small party at Radar's house, in the movie the party at Radar's house is never done.

The "SeaWorld" scene from the novel is not seen in the movie. This is because the movie "Blackfish" had made people rethink SeaWorld and captivity. If the SeaWorld scene were in the movie, people would possibly boycott and the box office would be low. The screenplay writers decided it would be best to not put the SeaWorld scene in.

In the book Quentin doesn't attend prom, he states several times how he despises it.

In the movie, Q and his friends race to find Margo and get home in time for prom. In the book, they head out to find Margo immediately after graduation. In fact, Q never even went to prom; he instead hung out in the abandoned building where Margo had spray painted, "you will go to paper towns and you will never come back."
