In the scene before the last race (Detroit), real Champ Car drivers are portrayed doing pre-race rituals. 'Kenny Brack', the driver of the Shell car, tapes a picture of a baby inside his race suit. The baby in the picture is Renny Harlin's son, Lukas.

On one of the cars is an advert for "Dog Chow". In the movie Showgirls (1995), Gina Gershon (who plays Cathy in "Driven") famously talks about how she used to love to eat Dog Chow.

Jimmy Bly's car is powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine. The German manufacturer had a successful 1997 season in the CART series and won the Engine Manufacturer's Cup after being victorious in nine races, but went on to experience little success in the following years and withdrew from the series after a winless 2000 season.
