  • There are three references to Arnold Schwarzenegger in this film: Before Satan possesses the man (Gabriel Byrne), he is shown in the same blurry way as the Predator (1987).After the man (Gabriel Byrne) leaves the restaurant in his newly possessed body he leaves, blows up the restaurant and casually walks out of the flames in the style of the T1000 walking out of flames in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). He does the same thing when he appears in Christine's home.The scenes wherein the man punches through the head priest's (Udo Kier) head (no pun intended) and even more to the point, rips the heart out of the subway conductor's chest are both reminiscent of The Terminator (1984) punching through the punker's chest and tearing out his heart.

  • Jericho's handgun is a Glock 34 9mm and twin Glock 26 9mm's in his sleeves. Later he is using a Glock 17 9mm. Bobby carries a very rare nickel plated HK P7M13 9mm throughout the film. Jericho also uses an HK MP5SD3 9MM submachine gun with a modified M203 Grenade Launcher attached. The weapon and his ammunition is slung over his torso and attached using a Chalker Harness.

  • The picture on the scroll that the cardinal consults in the beginning (the picture of the moon with the white blurred line above it) is titled "Finis Dierum", which is Latin for "End of Days".

  • Peter Hyams: [Spota] The name of the bar on the matchbook is Spota's. The name Spota appears as a character name in several other of Hyams' movies. Further, the address is 74 Clinton Street. Bill Clinton was president of the United States Of America (USA) at the time of this film's release. Coincidentally, Clark Kent (who is secretly Superman) also lives on Clinton Street, at #344, in most of his comic book appearances throughout the 1970's. This fact has as much bearing on the understanding of this movie as does the fact that Bill Clinton was in office in 1998.

  • There are several ads in the background in different scenes that read "NY2K are you ready?". Y2K was shorthand for "Year 2000" and there was a widespread fear that computer operating systems would crash because only the last two digits of the year were used to indicate dates, and it was feared computers would read the "00" as 1900 causing mayhem. There were even email suggestions going around that in the year 1999 people should change the year of their VCR's to 1976 because the days of the week (starting March 1) would be the same for both years. The fear of a Y2K meltdown was exaggerated, as timely programming fixes were able to prevent a major catastrophe.
